Momoko goes to the hair salon

Hello! If you’re reading this, it’s because the mission was a success and Lady Long Legs is still with us 🤣. I’m laughing, but I’m serious—I was already thinking about selling her because I wasn’t paying her much attention.

The other day it occurred to me that a makeover was the only thing she needed to inspire me. Lady Long Legs was my first Momoko. I feel like I’ve never managed to take a photo of her that I really like 💔. When I bought her, I was looking for a doll I could just take home and play with, without having to customize her like you do with BJDs.

Lady Long Legs had a pretty face, lips in my favorite color, a very natural hair color, and a very versatile wardrobe. At the time, her hairstyle didn’t bother me, but when Monchhichi Gingham Blue arrived, I liked her braids much better, and Lady Long Legs was pushed aside.

That’s why I decided restyling my Momoko’s hair was the only way. The process is simple, but it was my first time using boiling water on a doll.

The Process

📢This post is not a step-by-step guide. If you try to do something like this at home, you do so at your own risk, since the fibers vary from doll to doll. Proceed with caution because hot water can be dangerous.

Her braid was stiff and crusty, so the first thing I did was wash her hair with water and dish soap to detangle it. Once it was soft, I began the process of submerging her hair for 5–8 seconds in hot water (80 degrees Celsius).

A friend recommended that I boil water with fabric softener and use that mixture on her hair. Once I was happy with how it looked, I finished with a cold water rinse.

The doll didn’t end up with straight hair, but she did end up with some really pretty waves. The tips of her hair, where the braid ended, were very straight compared to the rest, so I trimmed that part. Both the comb and the scissors I used are from my dog’s grooming kit 😆.

New Look

I really like how it turned out, and I had fun trying clothes on her. It also inspired a quick photo shoot.

I feel like she could turn out to be either a really sweet girl or a really cool one. Only time will tell.
