Hello again!!! Hope you guys had an amazing weekend. I spent mine doing my diorama (finally!!) but I don’t want to show anything until it’s done. I’ve had a crazy week so I probably won’t be doing much until the weekend, but I’m excited to continue!
For today I’ll leave the rest of the photos of my trip, hope you enjoy them! Thanks for letting me know you liked the photos, hope I can do some more traveling in the future and show you that as well.
Chiloé island
Chiloé island is the largest island of the Chiloé Archipelago off the coast of Chile, in the Pacific Ocean. The island is located in southern Chile, in the Los Lagos Region. Thanks wikipedia.
We weren’t too sure on how to get to the island by ourselves so we paid a tour guide for the day. It was our first and last tour, we did all the other locations by ourselves.
There was an hour travel by bus from Puerto Varas to the ferry and then 30 minutes on the ferry to cross to the island. It was my first time on a ferry too!! The air was cold and the sea breeze was wonderful.
This was the first stop on the island, a few minutes in bus from where the ferry left us. Bad thing about tours is that they only give 30 minutes on each location for shopping, photos and sightseeing. On the other hand, that allowed us to visit more cities on the island, since it was so huge!
Second stop was a viewpoint from where you could see Stilt houses (palafite) as they are traditional in the island. The water was low when we arrived but the colorful houses still gave us an amazing view.
Tour guide said that out of 3 days, 2 are rainy in Chiloé, as it rains most of the year there. We were lucky to find a sunny day.
This is the Church of San Francisco, in Castro. 16 of Chiloé’s churches are declared Chilean National Monument and UNESCO World Heritage, this one included. We visited three on our tour. This first one was sadly closed to the public (it is very pretty inside), but we managed to enter the other 2.
This is Church of Nercón on the inside. I didn’t get any proper shots of the outside. It is very colorful inside, though the outside is very deceiving.
Lastly, Iglesia de Nuestra Señora de los Dolores (Church of Our Lady of Sorrows) in Dalcahue.
I’m not much of a fan of churches in general, but it is interesting to enter such old places and breath a bit of history.
More stilt houses.
We also had lunch in the island in the middle of the tour. Chiloé is very well know for growing an insane amount of different kinds of potatoes. Instead of eating the traditional food of the island (I’ve tried it before) I went for grilled salmon with many kinds of potatoes. There’s purple potatoes and black potatoes and other colors in between, it was very nice!
Vicente Pérez Rosales National Park
What we were most interested in was to visit Petrohué Waterfalls. To get there it’s an hour or so in bus from Puerto Varas.
We were lucky to find a local “taxi” driver, it’s not exactly a taxi, as more people can get in if there’s space and they have one route, we call them “colectivos”. We got on one of those and the driver was kind enough to stop several times on our way to the waterfalls so we could see other marvelous things.
He stopped the car so we could see the llamas farm. So cute!
The green lagoon in Ensenada was something we didn’t even think of visiting, but the driver took us there, it was like a personalized tour! So beautiful and calm. It has chairs so you can sit in the viewpoint and enjoy the wonderful view.
Then He recommended us to visit Todos los Santos lake first and then take a bus to Petrohué so we did that. From here Osorno volcano looked huge! we were so close!
Todos los Santos Lake was the place my Momoko enjoyed the most! You can see the other travelling doll photos on my instagram and Flickr.
After that we took a bus to Petrohué waterfalls. It’s a 15 minutes ride from Todos los Santos lake. There’s an entry fee and inside you not only can see the waterfalls, but also some other interesting views.
We walked through the woods to take all these wonderful photos!
So which place was your favorite??? For me it was definitely the last day in Petrohué waterfalls, such an amazing experience!
Hope you are having a great week!
You should share wip photos of the diorama!! I’m so curious about it!!
And OMG that is a wonderful place to have a holiday! Gorgeous locations and hope you had yummy traditional food too! Your Momoko looked adorable on those photos, honestly :3
The waterfalls where my fave place!!
I haven’t taken any photo of the process but I’ll try to do it!! I would post them when it’s all ready though, I’m hoping it looks nice in the end 😀
It was the best vacations Ive ever had, there were so many gorgeous places and yummy food, I’m glad you liked it! The waterfalls are definitely a must see if you are ever in the area 🙂 And the entrance fee is not expensive at all, around 3usd, and it let you walk down 3 paths, one leading to the waterfalls and the other 2 are the other photos I shared.
Momoko had a great time too 🙂
Definitely!! Next time I’ll be sure to bring more than one 😀
Wow, that town is so colourful. I love it. The colours are so vibrant and really stand out especially in those photos where you have a group of these houses together. They’re so striking. I also have never seen a yellow church before. That was pretty neat.
Do the different potatoes have similar taste?
Petrohue Waterfalls looks amazing. I love the woods you walked through. That would have been my kind of place. I love all that stuff and being so close to nature. The water there is so clear and clean too.
Your Momoko girl looks beautiful in that shot and the dress is so flattering on her.
Many of Chiloé’s churches are colorful, I think they are very unique! Chiloé was a very interesting place for sure, it’s so full of legends and history. There’s also penguins somewhere on the island but that was on another tour we didn’t take haha. I love penguins, I’ll be sure to check them out next time!
Potatoes were definitely similar in flavor, but some were more earthy than others, and it is very nice to see a plate full of different colored potatoes! I think the island has around 250 kinds of potatoes? It’s a crazy amount of types!
Petrohué was definitely the highlight of our trip, the best way to end our vacations for sure, that’s my kind of place too!
Thanks!
Oh wow man, this is gorgeous! I mean how can such stunning nature exist? I can’t even phantom it. (I live in Denmark, so to me, this is magical XD)
I love all the churches too! I actually love churches a lot, I think they’re works of art. I’m not religious, but I do enjoy how much work there often goes into a church.
I’m so glad you had a great vacation 😀 I hope you get to go to more :3 <333
Thank you for sharing the photos with us!
I know right??? I was in awe all the time!! Me and my friend could not stop saying how beautiful everything was out loud! I also find it magical :D! I hope someday I can go to Torres del Paine, they say it’s even more gorgeous!
Churches are interesting I admit that, and it was cool to visit such famous places (famous here at least haha).
Thanks for the good wishes, I will definitely try to have more trips in the future.
You had luck with the weather!
It is always lovely to see photos from surrounding places where others live. And our church is white too, on the outside and very colorful indoors – orange, green, red. I like to go sight seeing like this, you can get a lot of joy just seeing others trip and photos.
Llamas are so cute! But they do spit. At our cottage we have a little farm with alpacas. When we drove past that farm one day, I thought – look lots of materials for wigs! 😀 Have not had the courage to ask yet.
Well, just loved those stilt houses! And the food! Thanks for sharing!
Oh yes! we were very lucky with the weather all week, the only big rain happened the night before we left and it started raining again we were on our way back to the airport so it was like the clouds were just waiting for us to leave to start crying haha :D!
How very nice, I’d love to see your church! I think they are marvelous constructions.
You should totally ask about the alpacas!!! Alpacas are so cute too~ And llamas do spit! I remember when I was in school an incident with that, luckily it didn’t happen to me 😀
Thanks for reading!
Looks amazing! ^-^ I have a soft spot for waterfalls, even though I dislike water in general. And your photos are very good!
I love water 😀 and waterfalls are amazing, first time I see one up close! Thank you~
Omg the water, lakes and waterfalls and the forests and the mountain! Sooo amazing @o@ ~
I love how everything is so colorful including the houses, even the churches seem more colorful than I’d usually expect from a church! XD;;
Yes! I loved the colors! I can’t believe I finally got to know Chiloé and Puerto Varas, I’ve been wanting to travel for so many years but never tried to actually do it. I hope to do it soon again!
Once again I enjoyed ALL the photos, but the stilt houses were lovely to see as was the yellow church. I loved the walk in the woods the best. There is something about the air in amongst the trees that really lifts one’s spirit and running water is always so restful and relaxing. Whenever we go bushwalking I always come back feeling really good and glad to be alive!
I shall look forward to seeing your diorama when you’ve finished it.
Hugs,
X
I’m so happy you enjoyed the photos, I totally agree with you, walking through the woods is the best and faster way to put one in the best possible mood, I wish I had a nice place like that nearer me to do it on the weekends 🙂
Diorama is going slow but it’s taking form steadily, I’ve been having a lot of fun doing it!
Hugs!
