ProBjdArtists Day

Hello all!!! I wanted to do a quick post regarding a topic that is very important to me, and that is supporting the artists that make the beautiful dolls we all enjoy.

For various reasons I won’t go into detail here, I don’t have a photo to share, let’s just say that I’ve learned my lesson and I will prepare for the event with enough time next year.

For those of you who might not know, November 20th, that is today, was decided to be the day we all support the artists in the hobby by taking a photo of our dolls with a pro artist message on it. This incentive was created by Saskha quite a while ago when so many small independent artists were suffering from recasts.

Now the #proBjdArtists tag is present in all social media and on this day everyone uploads their photos there.

I don’t care about the reasons people are buying recasts, recasting is bad, period. It hurts the hobby and it makes the artists less willing to create. It’s because of the artists that we are all here after all.

Whether a company is big or small, it doesn’t matter, let’s not hurt the artists and enjoy their creations the right way.

On another note, and as a quick update on what’s going with my dolls, I haven’t had much luck taking photos lately, but I’m sure I will be bringing you some photos of May and Sassy Rosy soon. And talking about sassy Rosy, there’s a photo of her on my Instagram account if you are curious about her face up. For those who follow me there, you already know that this girl has a name now: Violeta. I updated her name on my doll list in the right column accordingly.

I have this terrible itch to make dioramas now, I’m having trouble finding a nice paper design that could work for the walls, it seems there’s not many pretty papers here in Chile. But with patience all is possible so wish me luck! (all ideas and suggestions are, of course, appreciated).

Hope you are having a nice Sunday and have a better week!

Oh #proBJDArtists day was yesterday? I didn’t know. I participated in that one last year or was it the year before? I can’t remember. Wish I could have participated this year too but have been too sick to do a proper set-up that isn’t a quick phone snap! What you said about recasts is very true. It is ruining the hobby. I always worry that companies will start shutting down because of this issue…

Violeta is so pretty. I really adore what you did with her and can’t wait to see what you have done with your May.

Oh I didn’t know you couldn’t get pretty paper over there. I will have to send you some next time I send you a parcel. We have a lot of nice scrapbook paper where I live and if you’re thinking of dioramas for Yo-sd, they should work. I’ll try them out with my Yo-sd first to see that they do fit their height though.

Can’t believe you are still sick!! I feel so bad for you, hope you will feel better soon, you should be!! those viruses must like you too much, can’t blame them though hehe.
I participated with a photo last year or the year before (can’t remember either) and the photo was so ugly that I deleted it quickly after the tag day so I didn’t want to do anything rushed and ugly this time around, but the date just came all too soon.
I hope to take photos of May soon!! And a decent one of Violeta. I haven’t found a fitting name for May though.
There’s a few pretty papers around but the ones I liked were super expensive for a tiny piece and the pattern was also too big for a wall decoration. Other than that you can find some papers with polka dots and I saw one with bricks, that are probably too small for anything and that’s pretty much all I could find. I will keep looking but I don’t mind getting some pretty papers from you 😀 I’m sure they would work~

I love to see so much support for the #proBjdArtists day!

And Violeta looks amazing, I saw the photo and loved the faceup!

About the diorama, maybe you can use fabric, as I think that is what most people use. And what about scrapbook paper? I would suggest do a Pinterest board, they are the best to keep inspiration and tutorials at hand!

Yeah it was lovely to see everyone posting photos yesterday!! I was so sad I didn’t upload a photo that the least I could do was post something about it in my blog.
Glad you like Violeta, I’m happy with her and her name!
I’ve kept all your suggestions in mind and I’ll go look around for anything that I can use, whether is fabric or paper. Thanks!

When I first joined this hobby, I never thought that there would be such a thing as recasts. And when I heard about it, I was so surprised (to put it mildly). I never ever thought (how stupid of me) that people would do that. I do not get the point. I just hope that pro bjd artists day helps a bit and the artists can feel our support.

Maybe you could use some bits and pieces from old wallpaper? I did that, when I fixed my little doll house from my childhood. It worked well. Fabric and scrapbook paper is very good ideas too, as Musume mentioned!

    Have a amazing new week!

Totally agree!! When I started in this hobby recasts weren’t a topic and later on first recasted dolls were pure garbage so it continued not being an issue. It’s sad that now we have to make a pro artists day when everyday we should be supporting them. I just don’t get the point of buying a fake if you want it so bad. And if you don’t want it so bad, just don’t get it, right?

Thanks for your suggestion!! I’ve been hunting down old wallpapers but I just can’t seem to find any. Here there’s no such thing as thrift stores and garage sales are nto a common thing. I’ve seen it happen twice in all my 32 years living in this area.

Week started nice, thanks for the good wishes, hope your week is amazing too!

I totally agree with you. And I think proBJDartist day is an important and really good day. It’s always fun to see what people come up with to show their support of the artists.

I just followed you on Instagram now since I’m there too 😀 It will be nice to be able to keep up there also.
Violeta is a pretty name and she looks very cute. Very nice faceup 😀

Dioramas are very cool, and I would love to make some also. I just have no idea what to do or where to start. Good luck with finding all you need 😀

I’m so happy to see many people on board with this!!
Thanks for following me, now I can follow you too!! Sometimes it’s hard to keep up with everyone in social media, but Instagram is a very nice community. I used to be on tumblr, but confessions sort of killed the community. That and spam bots on the BJD tag.
I’ve been watching some youtube videos and blogs about dioramas, to have an idea of what I could make. Thanks!

Good to see you stating your opinion as well! Even without a photo, I feel like it’s an important message.
I love the name you chose for Violeta. I actually like it a lot better than “Violet” even though they’re so similar. I think in Danish it would be “Viola” which I also like better than “Violet”, but “Violeta” is the best in my opinion 😀
    And gosh, she’s a cutie!

Yeah I felt it was an important enough message to skip the day if I already knew about it. Saw your photo for it, love it! 😀 Let’s hope enxt time I can take one too!
Love how Viola sounds too!! Violet is nice but it doesn’t have the same ring to it like Viola or Violeta 🙂
      Thanks!

I really love feeling the love from other collectors. I know I’m pretty passionate about it, but it’s nice to know how others feel about the artist side of the hobby.
