Same photo, two different days

18 Comments on Same photo, two different days

Today I want to write about something that I hope you will find interesting. I’ve mentioned a few times how I can’t seem to settle for a photo I take so I end up taking the same thing twice (or more).

So I bring to you the latest example. As you might remember, one of my goals for this year was to upload at least one good photo each month to my flickr and deviantart accounts. And this month I had NOTHING. With the end of the month fast approaching I improvised a photoshoot of Serafina yesterday to show off her new eyes and dress.

I didn’t put her antlers on, as I wanted to try how it would look and I also added a few flowers to the look so it seemed more springy. I didn’t want to take photos really, so I did everything fast. The best photo of the bunch was this one:

A dress fit for a fairy

HATED it, but it was that or nothing for this month and I didn’t want to fail my challenge so soon.

Then today I decided to redo the whole thing, as I got some unexpected free time on my hands.

I took out the other wig I have for her, tried my best to tame it (not that successfully, but you should have seen how it was before the fix lol). I went outside with her antlers on this time because I realized they are an important part of her and tried better to pose her in a cute way (still simple because she’s not really a good poser). I also changed her eyes from purple to green because I hated the purple ones on her (which is sad because the eyes are GORGEOUS, I will keep them for sure). I’m so glad I had a spare pair of mako eyes here because the green really suits her. The result:

So what do you guys think? I think it’s a million times better! Imagine if I decided to go at it a third time XD I know it could be better, but for now I’m glad this month I was able to put a photo I’m happy with. My goal is still far, but I have not failed yet!

Happy easter!!!

The second photo is much better Alejandra, it shows her personality and the wig suits her really well. There’s something to be said about the old adage . . . “If at first you don’t suceed, try, try again”. It certainly worked out well here, so you should be proud of yourself. 🙂
    Hugs,

You are absolutely right!! I try not to get discouraged when I don’t like a photo and I do tend to repeat the same photoshoot until I feel I have something I like. The bath time photoshoot I did two times in different days, and even tried several times on the first day too, so I repeated the same shoot a lot until I felt it was right.
But sometimes it is hard to remember to keep at it until you make what you want, it’s good to have a reminder here on the blog.
Thanks fr your kind words! Makes me want to try harder~

I don’t think the first one turned out bad but I do prefer the second photo because you can see all of her in that one. The pose and composition create a really dynamic feel and it really does show her emotion here. With that slight head tilt, almost as though she stopped for just a second to look at the camera gives off this feeling of shyness, as if you just caught her at a moment she least expected. It feels very natural.

Happy Easter to you too! Hope you are enjoying the Easter break.

The first one is not too bad but I don’t like her eyes or the way the head is positioned. I also dislike the wig styling (her bangs are oddly positioned) and the composition while is not horrible, could be a lot better.

I agree with you about the second photo, I was just telling my brother how it felt like Serafina stopped just for a second and smiled at the camera and then ran out fast and out of reach.

I’m totally enjoying the easter break! Loving One more happy ending haha, can’t believe they tricked me at the end of the first episode but it was all for the best!

I really like the green eyes on her!! And I agree, the second, newest, photo is far better than the first! I also think that the sort of messy hair gives her a natural fores-like vibe!

Maybe you could try to have her do things with her hands? Hold them in the front, mess with her hair/clothes, hold something invisible and photoshop a fairy light?

Thanks! I want to delete the first photo from flickr but I’ll keep it for a while XD
I’m good at photoshop but somehow I never think of adding any effects to my photos lol, thanks for the idea 🙂

The green eyes do really suit her ~ I always think red/orange + green colors go so well together! The curly wig also looks so cute on her!

You take such pretty photos, I do hope you will attempt more like this, don’t give up! 😀 😀

I live orange and purple together but it does not work for her eyes XD At least the dress do work haha I agree the green eyes are much better and I’m glad I bought them when I didn’t really have an exact use for them.
Thank you!! I will keep trying~

I don’t dislike the first photo, but the second is better I think. It’s great that you can reflect, and decide what you want to correct. Try try again, as they say!

Serafina looks gorgeous! But you are right, the second picture really gives her a lot more personality. I love how you’ve captured such bright colors. Lovely photos both of them ^^

I like both of the photos, but I can see why you like the second one more yourself ^^ Try not to be too hard on yourself, you do take lovely pictures ♥

Lulu sends hugs to Serafina, she wonders how it would feel like to be a pony D:

I don’t think I’m being too hard XD!! If I decided to settle on the first photo the second would have never existed, and it’s so pretty in comparison 😀
Lulu is always so friendly /o/!!! love her! Serafina loves being a pony, having four legs to kick people is more fun 😀

I really know how you feel with this! A few years ago there was a shoot I redid twice and still weren’t satisfied with it. I never figure out how to fix it, so I never tried a third time. xD

The second photo is super cute! It shows a lot of personality. 😀 And I love her wig! So cute. :3

I’ve re done many shoots since I starting taking photography more seriously haha but it doesn’t always work. Sometimes I just give up on an idea and other times I come back to old photos I hated to find something nice.

Thank you! I think the sculpt has a lot of personality and it shows in the photos 😀 can’t take credit for that lol

Oh my, I really love this girl. I am not so much into dolls with animal parts, but this one and the doll Crystal has, with the Scorpio tail make my heart jump a couple of beats more. I like the both photos, but the second one gives a bit more personality to the doll. Love it.
